They changed it to 8/4!

Hi everyone,

Looks like I had my last OB appointment this morning. Because of my PUPP rash, they have let me have the option to induce at 39 weeks. My EDD is really calculated as 8/4, so I guess I've been wrong all along. Apparently they don't change your EDD unless it's over 7 days difference.

So I've decided to take them up on the offer since I'm really not sleeping anymore because of the rash. I was up constantly last night (and many nights before) due to the itching. It's getting worse by the day.

On exam this mroning, I am completely effaced, the baby is engaged, and I'm about 1.5 cm dilated. She says it's favorable for an induction next week. She also stripped my membranes today. I've been feeling a lot of lower pelvic pressure for the past week or so with some lovely constipation, so I'm assuming he dropped at that point.

We moved some things around in the bedrooms and cleaned tonight in preparation for the baby...but there's plenty more to do! I've also decided to continue working part-time this week...but if I don't get enough sleep I will just take days off.

So that's all I know for now!

I hope it all works out for you . Just remember that you're at an increased risk of c/s since you are technically before 39 weeks and a first time mom if you consent to the induction. But if your cervix is favorable then you have a better chance of it working out. Look up "bishop's score" and see where you stand.

Also, I just can't believe that your EDD is really 8/4. Are they basing that off your LMP despite the fact that you had IUI and ovulated late? I just told my OB when I ovulated and he went from there. Keep us posted

Either way, you're in for a ride! At least you know partly what to expect w/ newborn care. But the postpartum emotional roller coaster really threw me off guard. I had no idea I could feel that way (happy and sad/crying at the same time practically) Hopefully I'm prepared this time

Oh one last thought - have you picked up "the thinking woman's guide to a better birth" yet? She has a chapter specifically devoted to inductions and it is honestly worth the read. She has some really good advice on what to consent to and what not to consent to (PLEASE PLEASE SAY NO TO CYTOTEC aka MISOPROSTOL - if you want more info PM me).

I had miso for my induction and I work in OB. I wouldn't object to it at all. There is a reason we like it and a readon why it works.

Cytotec has not been approved for use in L&D - it is only approved to treat ulcers. The FDA has issued statements that it should not be used for inducing labors because there is not enough scientific data to prove it is safe. The main reason it is used is that is effective and CHEAP. The problem is that it is a pill and once you insert it and it dissolves, it can't be taken out nor can the effects be reversed. It can cause uterine hyper stimulation and uterine rupture.

Other prostaglandins are more expensive but my body and my baby are worth the cost should an induction be necessary. I've done quite a bit of reading on cytotec and there is no way I'd ever consent to it.
