Hey There,

I feel like there is some light at the end of the tunnel. I just read on a blog that throat cultures can be done by the child spitting up into a cup. Then the swab that. Is this true? Ohhh my goodness........That would be soooo great! Please tell me if this is true.

Thanks,

Sarah

We do it all the time here in France. The RT who does my dd's CPT makes her spit into a cup after the CPT session and we take it to the lab at the hospital. The cup has to be sterile though. It is very practical b/c we can culture her more often than 3 months, which is really a minimum.

Sarah,

Throat cultures are the worst when you're a kid! As long as he can spit the mucus in a cup, he can give a sputum sample rather than the throat swab. It is a more accurate test anyways, so hopefully he can do it.

I almost never have a productive cough, unless I'm sick. So it's always a throat swab for me

Thanks guys for your input......I was hoping this make clinic less scary for him. It's like he knows it's coming...it's the last thing they do to him. So he freaks out and screams the entire 2 1/2 hrs and trys to break out of the room. He knows what's coming next. I'm bringing his Dad to help until we move past this.

It's sooo hard I know the clinic thinks he is nuts. All the other babies are quiet, and then it's a freak show in our room. (THE SCREAMING and ARM CROSSING....ALL DONE...ALLD DONE is what he screams to the doctors..) But, I know he is normaly really sweet and calm...with just a touch of crazy

Thanks,
