Throat problem

Hmmm interesting, the thing is I'm in New Zealand and it is Autumn over here and not really our allergy season - altough I think i do get mild hayfever, but not normally at this time of year.
However the post nasal drip concept intrigues me as my throat is at it's worst first thing in the morning and gets better as the day goes on.........

Hayfever can be caused by not just seasonal allergies...

Many allergies are indoors. Dust mite feces, mold, cats, dogs, indoor plants that bloom in the fall.

I have developed an allergy in the last few years to a mold (can't remember which one though) that is most prevelent in the spring and fall ...I used to just get fall allergy problems- thought it was ragweed, turns out it's goldenrod. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

cf affects the sinuses majorly. I have lost the ability to produce saliva because my cf is attacking my salivary glands. I know how you feel about the throat discomfort. I would guess that maybe you need to have a hacking session. That is what I call them anyway. Be careful how you cough, but if you just got through with a vest treatment you could have mucous stuck to the back of your throat. I have had what is called a CF SINUS INFECTION. They're so lovely! NOT! Cf sinus infection basically is like a regular sinus infection the headache the nose pain the swelling of tissues, and then the most scary part of it all. Mucous so thick that it sticks to the back of the throat. Yeah, nasty. Anyway. It is possible you might have tonsilitis. Or that sometimes with cf patients we tend to have larger tonsils from all of the resperatory infection we get. Anyway, If you have any more questions feel free to write me. Have a good weekend!

Love to help anyway I can. God bless.

I don't have CF, but dealt with sinus issues for years. My tonsils were almost always inflamed and I would get nasty little curds coming out of them for as long as I can remember. I was never really sick, never had a fever, just tired of dealing with my tonsil issues. So, I had a tonsilectomy in my late 30s and the ENT indicated that I had chronic tonsilitis -- the infection went deep and my tonsils were full of stuff. The infection was contained in my tonsils and I do recall he said, there was no way any oral antibiotics would've taken care of the problem.

Prior to my surgery, I would get temporary relief from salt water gargles/rinses.

Thanks everybody, i've decided it may indeed be sinuses, although they don't feel blocked and i have no pain, when i blow my nose there is streaks of blood in it and i honestly think i blew out a bit of fungus a couple of times.....when i bring stuff up from my throat there was some black stuff in that looked like mould to me, wondering if it's possible for our sinuses to get mould in them? I've only cultured scanty aspergillus twice....then it goes away and i'm wondering if it's not in my lungs but in my sinuses - possible?
I have had very very slight headaches in the mornings the last few days so am thinking could be a mixture of sinuses and oral thrush, so gonna keep doing the thrush treatment but add some sinus rinses in as well, i have NeilMed sinus rinse here but haven't been doing it much as my sinuses really don't feel very blocked, maybe only slightly. I'm a bugger to diagnose with anything though coz i just dont really get many symptoms of anything, even pneumonia i hardly know when i've got it!!!
