Throwing up with neb. treatments

I have had to only do neb. treatments in the hospital or at the cf center because each treatment, my body gets so worked up that I throw up and I end up not being able to finish it. I have told my dr.s but they don't have any suggestions. I need to be able to do my pulmazyme, and xopenex, and hypertonic saline treatments. I am starting to feel like something is not being treated here.

Has anyone had this issue?

Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

I brought up the same problem when I was doing my treatments and my doctors gave me two choices:

1.) Prilosec
2.) Metoclopramide (Reglan)

They believe my throwing up after treatments was caused by too much acid in the stomach. I thought it was strange since I've never had heartburn or anything of that sort before but they said it was pretty common for CF patients to have more acid in their stomach.

Of course talk with your doctor about this first (I know prilosec can be bought pretty much anywhere) as taking these for an extended period of time can disrupt the production of acid the body does need.

Thanks. I am allergic to prilosec, it causes me to have severe stomach cramps. But I can ask about the Reglan. I do have GERD too, so that probably doesn't help. Thank you for the suggestion. I will ask my doctor about it. I also take ranitidine daily too. The acid may be a factor. I will keep everyone posted once I talk to m doctor this week. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I only do this when I am pregnant-which is right now. I throw up about 3-4 times during each treatment. Since I know it is temporary, and I know why its happening, I'm just dealing with it.
Some things I do to keep it to a minimum: Do not eat before your treatment, or drink lots either. Doing chest pt first thing in the am before eating is really best. There's just much less in your stomach to throw up, including acid.
In your situation I'd definitely look into this with a GI doc.
You have to do your chest pt, whether it makes you sick or not. So see if there's something that can be done from a GI doc's point of view.

I used to do this w/ some of my treatments. Try putting on a timer and doing them 5 minutes at a time (5 mins on, 3 mins off). I know it takes ~forever~ but it might be worth a try.
