thrush from zithromax

I went to the medicenter and they prescribed Diflucan and an ointment, but the closest pharmacy was out of the ointment and by the time I reached the other one it was closed. Anyway, the doc said not to take Diflucan while nursing, but on Kellymom.com it is only an L2 for nursing and approved in bfing mothers. I'm going to take it anyway.

Oh yeah, they were not sure if we had thrush or not for sure, because Alex didn't have white patches yet, but I do have the worst vaginal yeast infection, so I'm glad for the Diflucan regardless. I don't think it's mastitis and I know that bfing is the best for that.

Also, the doc gave me 12 refills on both the ointment (which can also be used vaginally, as well as for breasts) and 12 refills on the Diflucan because of the continued use of Zithromax. I will be talking with my CF doc about this, but I'm glad to have a solution for now. Thanks for all of your help.

Most doctors are not familiar w/ breastfeeding and medications so will err on the cautious side and say no bfing. I think it is ridiculous to prescribe a bfing mom a medication some something as "minor" as a yeast infection and then say not to bf while taking it (medications not OK for bfing should be reserved for very severe problems IMO). It is as if its perfectly fine and dandy for the bfing mom to switch to formula for a while!? Tell that to the babies who refuse bottles or who don't tolerate formula - or to the moms who will have to pump and dump around the clock or risk engorgement and losing their supply. That is a HUGE peeve of mine. Diflucan IS safe so no worries there. In fact most medications are safe, but the doctors prescribing them don't know that.

I think sometimes they think of the pregnancy category, because that was a C, or just don't bother to look it up. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I feel so much better, even after only one day of use.

Diflucan is just fine to take (ive had alot of thrush issues with nursing). EAT SOME YOGART and feed some to the baby. You and him have to BOTH be treated or it will not go away.

Get the cream when you can and put it on your nipples as it says. You need to get the baby a script for the mouth wash. Also if he takes a paci you need to treat all pacis a few times a day.

Thrush is HARD to get rid of unless you are treating everything. My best advice is to eat a yogart everyday until symtoms less then go to atleast 3 times a week. Get some yobaby yogart for the baby adn feed him some atleast 3 times a week as well.
