Time for a vest...

So, at clinic today they measured Cammie and said that she is big enough for a vest. They gave us some information on all three and told us to choose which one is best. I was just wondering if anyone had some input on which one worked best/worst, easiest/hardest, etc. My husband looked them all up and is leaning towards the SmartVest. Just hoping that we might get some help from those of you that are seasoned in the vest for us newbies! Thanks!

It would probably be easiest to do a search on the forum for this topic. It has been brought up many times with tons of responses......

Emily has the HillRom vest. It's very easy to use... we programmed it once (or they can do it for you when it's delivered and they go through the first session with you) and then it automatically cycles through all the settings whenever we turn it on. There's a convenient 'pause' feature (a plug-in cord with a squeeze bulb at the end) that Emily uses on her own at any time when she needs to cough.

The only drawback in my opinion is that the hoses fall off too easily. They go back on easily enough but this can be really annoying!! I know one of the vest systems has locking hoses, which I think is a really good idea that I wish our vest had.

eta: You probably want to check and see which one your insurance covers. They might only cover a specific one. Given how $$ they are (about $16K for ours, for example) it's a big consideration.

You can go to my blog under Warwick and read his input regarding the vest (since he invented it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> )
