Hi,

I'm an adult with CF, and I have been on Pulmozyme since it came out in the mid- 1990's. While it is hard to say how it has affected me, I think the concept behind Pulmozyme is excellent, and in the scheme of things, it doesn't take that long to nebulize (10 mins max). Hypertonic saline is good also (I have been doing hypertonic for about 6 yrs), but it can be irritating to the airways.

It's great to see the little ones with CF benefitting from all of the advances that came about when I was a teenager.

Best of luck to you!

Hi,
My daughter has been on Pulmozyme since she was 3 years old. She wasn't showing a lot of respiratory symptoms, but her pulmonologist told me that even when symptoms are not there, mucus is. It's always there, even when they don't hear it with a steth., see it abundantly on an x-ray, or culture a bug. CF is all about prevention. The basics are "Keep the mucus thin so that bugs can't get in". The less secretion there is, the less the entry for illness there is and that's the purpose of Pulmozyme; to break up the mucus. I know it's a lot, but personally, I think it has been worth it for us. Good luck with your decision!
