I am! The only time I had trouble gaining weight was when I was pregant....I actually lost weight (20 lbs by 7 months pregnant) without even trying! On my CF chart they wrote my BMI (which is higher than it should be) and wrote GREAT by it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Not so great to me! I am running and trying to lose weight but it is slow going.

When I was pregnant though-I think it was good I had the extra weight because losing 20 lbs being at a normal weight would not have been good for me. I would ideally like to lose about 25 lbs to be at my ideal weight.

I am one of the thin ones - 5'3'' and 100 lbs. Like my lung function, my weight doesn't fluctuate. I would like to gain a few pounds and I think it'd be better for my health, but my doctor tells me that once the lungs are used to functioning a certain way at this weight, if I gain more than just a few pounds it'll be harder on the lungs, since they'll have to work harder to tend to more body mass. Makes sense right? On a side note - I used to think that all CFers were skinny! I thought it was part of the 'package'..

I am about to start pulmonary rehab (have my first appointment today). How can you lose weight on this program? I don't see the relation..
I hope not, since I'm already on the thin side.

Hey Vera, In answer to your last question, Nope, We come in all shapes & sizes & our symptoms & health varies just as much.. As far as your dr. saying you gaining a few pounds our make your lungs work harder, I just dont think if you are 100 lbs. a few lbs. would hurt. but thats just my opinion..

Hi there, I agree that a few more pounds would not only be harmless but would actually help. I have been trying for so long but I have never managed to weigh more than 103 lbs, ever.

Gunelle, I am 30 lbs overweight. the extra weight came on in my late 30's. NOTHING takes it off except Medifast which is almost 0 carbs. With weight watchers I lose about 10-15 and then am stuck for good. The ONLY thing for me is NO carbs. I have said for years that I can't metabolize carbs. I believe that to be true. now i wonder if it has to do with CF

My husband was 36 with CF when he passed away. He was 6' 2" and weighed about 125 pounds. He also had the joint pain you are talking about and his doctors never did remedy that. I really hope you have better luck with finding relief! Best wishes!

I just found out today how cardio rehab is going to help me loose weight.... I will be exercising 5X a week cardio, 3 days a week strength, 2-3 days a week balance and 2-3 a week yoga.

It should allow me to loose a few pounds in a controlled environment.

My DD is overweight. Since being diagnosed November 2010, she has gained 50 lbs. She was 9 at the time. Before being diagnosed she was sick alot and coughing all the time, so I think that has something to do with it. She is PS. The doctors have not said anything about her weight but her dietician always has something to say about it. She said they like a little weight on CF patients but not as much as she does. She is 11 at 149 lbs

I have never had a problem gaining or maintaining my weight since I turned 21. As a kid my parents had to bribe me to gain weight. Now i eat normal healthy food and still gain. People cant believe I have CF when they see me. They always say "well you dont look sick" drives me crazy. I usually loose 5 lbs tops when Im sick. Im just glad Im not the only non-skinny CF'er. My dietician praises my weight then yells at me when I diet.
