To those who use Glucose Meters....

Hi all...

So I am not diagnosed CFRD but am investigating my (what I assume, think) sugar issues. I finally got my meter and test strips, but I realize that the meter only comes with 10 lancets.

I went searching online for good deals, but this is one thing I was unaware of as far as glucose meters. Do I need a prescription for lancets? I found some on amazon.com but am unsure if that is what I am looking for or if its legit. Where do you all get yours and what is a good price for them? Also, I read somewhere that it does not matter what brand you get? Is this true? I got the freestyle lite meter and the test strips are very sensitive, but do I need to get specific lancets too?

Well I don't have CFRD but when I was on prednisone and my bs were running a little high I was checking my sugars daily. I bought all my equipment on eBay!

i've had a prescription written for lancets before but you don't need one to buy them. The only reason why I prefer to get a prescription, is that my insurance will cover 100% because they're less than a co-pay. For my lancets they usually run 15$ a box - so thats 106 lancets. I use an accu-check multiclix lancet device & lancet drums. You can dial the depth of the lancet so when you first start out you are on say 1, then as your fingers get scarred you can dial it up, but I love it because the lancet device is preloaded with 6 lancets at a time. And the drums are pretty small so you can easily fit them in your meter case.

When I had a prescription I received probably 10 boxes for the cost of my copay(I think $60). So if you are planning on testing alot then I would go for the prescription.

I buy mine at a pretty decent price through amazon.com. They are much cheaper than Walmart or Walgreens. Hubby just orders them for me every few weeks to make sure I always have enough on hand.

Hooray for accu-check mulitclix-hurts much less than regular lancets. This is not recommended, but I usually use a lancet a day and not switch it each time I test. I do clean my fingertip off before poking though.
