Toddler Growth

I know alot of you have toddlers, so I thought I'd get some thoughts. How many of your kids went through periods of little to no gain when they became toddlers (2-4) either because of toddler BS at meal time or summer activity?

Our son hasn't gained since March or so and has I believe lost a little this summer. He is healthy and showing no signs of anything but typical toddler challenges. I seem to remember him not gaining weight last summer and than making up for it over the winter. But he is only 1-2lbs heavier than he was last summer, so it doesn't add up.

I feel like I need to be careful not to let him be too active without increasing calories, yet he is not wanting to sit for more than a couple minutes. ARGHH!!

Just feel a bit worn out by it all...

Hi Jody,

Has he grown in height at all? Sometimes kids grow in plateaus. 2" in height 2lbs. or so in weight for example. Could he be just stretching out? That's how Griffin does it anyway.
Has he had any clinics or cultures recently? What does all that show? What does his Dr. say? How are his enzymes working?
This is always in the back of my mind as well. Will he have grown enough by the next clinic? You're not alone there. I tend to try to beef-up all his foods with some kind of beneficial fat, and feed him the most healthful well rounded diet I can, which I know you must also do. I hope he chunks up with the colder weather coming at least if everything else seems fine!

Hey Jody -

I was going to say the same about the growing in height as Dee Dee. It's been a long time since Jordan was a toddler, but I remember him taking a growth spurt and thinning out some. In fact, all three of my boys went through that.

I did want to add one thing about limiting his activity. I would let him be as active as he wants, because that is great for his lungs. Try not to worry too much - he's just a mover and a shaker!

Jody,
Both my kids have gone through periods of not gaining much and then gain quite a bit in a short period. I don't know what the average gain per year is but 1-2 lbs does seem a bit low.
I agree with Stacey about the activity level, and I couldn't keep my kids still if I tried.
