Can someone please tell me what this sounds like? My 2 1/2 year old son has been throwing up occasionally the last few days. He is taking fluids pretty good but cannot keep anything solid down as of today. He is pooping normally. He has also been complaining of being tired the last few days. He is not coughing. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I at first thought he may have a virus but now right before he throws up he holds his stomach and says owww and then throws up. He is just not acting like his normally very energetic self. I am taking him to the doc. tomorrow but wanted to see what you all thought. I am really concerned about him and any thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks

Does he have a fever? I would think that it may just be a virus, or possibly the flu? Its good that you have an appointment with his doc tomorrow. If he can't tolerate solids, then give him stuff like clear fluids (juice, flat diet pop, chicken noodle soup, or some other kind of broth). I know when I can't tolerate solid foods, I seem to be able to tolerate dry toast with nothing on it, or crackers?

The "ow" before throwing up concerns me. It could just be from things being all stirred up. Possibly acid reflux, but good to get it checked in case its not viral!

DS got a nasty stomach bug when he was about 2. Threw up, had a bit of a fever. Every time I thought he was getting better, I mistakenly gave him some solids -- Mac & Cheese barf over the shoulder. So we stuck to white grape juice and pedialyte for about a day and he was fine. I'd gotten a similar bug the winter before and my stomach hurt like heck AND I barfed for about two days straight. Hopefully he feels better soon. Liza

No he is not running a fever. He is also already on Prevacid for acid reflux. So I am just clueless as to what could be the problem. Guess I will know more tomorrow. Thanks for the replies!

Awhh, Carrie your poor little guy. I have no advice but I will be thinking of you. In fact, I have been thinking of you and hoping your summer is going well. Any news allergy wise? I am so hoping you get some things figured out in that area.

Let us know how it goes tomorrow. Give Sawyer a hug from us. Jody

PS still want to discuss Prescription for Healing at some point, too. :)

I called the doctor and they told me to give him another day and try giving him clear liquids only. Well he decided he was hungry yesterday and ate some baked potato and some junior mints. He also drank pretty good yesterday. So he did not throw up all day yesterday until he got choked last night on a baked bean. (He has a very sensitive gag anyway). So I am going to watch him this morning and decide whether or not to take him in this afternoon. He had alot more energy yesterday as well. So I am hoping it was just a virus after all. I did take my daughter to the doctor yesterday though and she has strep throat....so now I will have to watch my other three for that also!! Doesn't is always seem as if everything happens at the same time!! Anyway that is all I know for now but will update again if I have to end up taking him in.
Jody.....I have been thinking about you guys also. Hope you all are having a great summer. I just got two of my kids back in school but I am homeschooling my oldest son. So we are excited about that! Sawyer has done great this summer...this stomach problem is the first time he has been sick all summer. He just got back from the beach last Saturday. He went for a whole week with my parents....can you believe I let him go for a week? Well it was hard but he had an AWESOME time!! Anyway....Email me anytime.....and how is the website coming along?

Jody....I forgot to mention that we did finally make it to the allergy doctor. His test came back that he is allergic to milk (which we new), eggs, beef, and chicken!! She told me that he could continue eating the beef and chicken since he has been eating it in the past with no reaction. She also said that children who develop food allergies (except peanut) before the age of two usually outgrow them between ages 4 and 6. So I am hoping and praying that will be the case with Sawyer. Just wanted to let you know!!

Hi - I'm just going to tell you what happened to our 9 yr old boy w cf last year. He was in school for about a month (his teacher punished the kids if they had to go to the bathroom during class - 5 min in for recess w head down). So one day he complained of a stomach ache - started throwing up - ok he's got the flu. Waited 24 hrs - still throwing up after that and terrible stomach ache. Talked w a nurse that I work with and said it could be appendix. Ran him to the local doc - she thought it was. Went to the surgeon - he wasn't quite sure about the appendix. Had a cat scan - which they did a barium enema -(couldn't drink the stuff) he came out from that jumping around and acting normal. What happened is he had intersepseption sp? sm intestine and lg overlap - cause of constipation - which he still was going to the bathroom. The barium enema fixed it. He did this 2 more times within a month till we got his enzymes changed then he's been fine. Called the school and said he needs to go whenever he needs to WITHOUT punishment!! Made sure of that this year too. I had no idea that this happens with cf kids. Just something to look for. I felt bad after that - you never no if it's flu or not.

This is horrifying, even for non-cf kids! The poor kid. Was the teacher aware of his "CF needs"? If you haven't already, maybe you should think about doing a 504 plan so that teachers MUST provide for his needs during school.
I hope you let the school know about it! grrrrrr

Oh I did! I called the superintendent last year so mad I was almost crying. Tanner thought he committed a crime or something - staying in w head down for 5 min. Recess is so important to him and exercise is what they need! I wrote it on the sheet this year and reminded the super of it too. The new teacher said they would do the same thing this year unless have a medical reason- so I told him to let me if that happens this year or not. Yesterday was 1st day. I know there afraid of kids abusing it = but I think they can tell the ones that do. My son is real quiet and isn't disruptive at all - so they know better. We have to stand up for our kids - right?
