I am very unhappy to say that the fungus ball has not shrunk at all since my last cat scan. This has me so upset. I was expecting to hear good results and got completely the opposite. I have been on the vfend for about 2 months now and at first the fungus ball shrunk a tiny bit, but has now remained the same size since. My doctor is upping the dose which isnt thrilling to me since the side effects are not pleasant. Visual distrubances and sun sensitivity are the worst that i have noticed . Even with 45 spf i am burning with any amount of time in the sun even just while driving. The visual disturbances are just annoying but luckily dont last too long after i take the medicine. I pray this fungus ball shrinks after the upped dose and the insulin changes i am going to make, because i dont want to go the next step, which is going in the hospital for iv antifungals. I havent been this unhappy in a long time <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Oh Diane i'm so sorry to hear this, that really sucks for you!!! Damned fungus!! wonder why these oral antifungals aren't working for you? Maybe for your peace of mind some IV antifungals woudn't be so bad, you just want to get rid of the damned thing really don't you. Would you absolutley have to be admitted to get these IV's? I've heard the side effects can be unpleasant, so I guess for at least the first couple of days until they see how you react, it would be a good idea to keep you in and monitor you. Speaking from my own personal experience with antibiotics, the orals knock me around quite bad (especially bloody Cipro), but the IV's are no problem at all.......you'd think it'd be the other way around, but nope, I sail through IV's and feel great when i'm on them, just a little tired is all. Perhaps it will be the same with you and IV antifungals? The orals might be nastier for you than the IVs??? <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">
