is it okay for CFers to get tongue rings? i had it done last night, but then i got to thinking. with us coughing up gunk all the time, maybe some of the bacteria could get in the peircing and get infected or something. i was just wondering if anyone else has one. And i updated my blog. my tongue ring experience is in it.

its ok. i dont think there is any higher risk. if you notice any sign of infection go to the doctor IMMEDIATELY. ive heard some disasters about people who dont seek medical attention when their piercings get infected.

but while we are on the subject, im going to give you my honest opinion on tongue piercings while on this subject. i think they look terrible. sorry. and this is coming from someone who loves piercings and has had strange ones of my own. i say take it out and get a nice petite nose piercing or stretch your ear lobe piercings if you have them and put some pretty plugs in.

Hey,

I had my tongue pierced a few years ago and didn't have any problems with it getting infected. Something about our saliva being able to wash the area out of the mucus .. who knows. Also I tended to use mouth wash pretty regularly after it healed.
I don't know if you use it before it is healed fully if it will sting or not, as I didn't try.

I am sure it will be fine, but like Kylie said if you notice a problem call the doc. Also if you think there is a problem take it out. It will probably close within a few hours. I took mine out just for a break while I ate lunch one day and went to put it in a few hours later (after I had had it or several months) and the hole had already grown up - hence one of the reasons I no longer have it.

I've had my belly button pierces 3 times before, and every time it got infected. I think for me it was because during all three times I had a chest infection so my body was sick and I rejected it. Who knows. All I know is that I want to get my nose pierced, but I've been hesitant due to the whole mucus in the nose thing.

Sara I think you're hysterical. I was reading your blog about Peetie (sp?) last night with my mom and we were laughing so hard. I'm sorry your angel died. I don't mean to make light of that. But the General Weiner thing was just so so so funny.

You look A LOT like a 20 year old version of my aunt. I should send you a pic.

Anyway, keep blogging. You are really really funny

i have that little piece of skin that connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth pierced and have had no problems. i also had my tongue pierced back when i was in my teens and never had any problems either. i gave up on the piercings awhile back, though, and moved on to tattoos...way more fun!

No problems with my tongue ring ... but as with the other posts, call the doc if any sign of an infection occurs. I love piercings and wish I could get more where people can actually see them. Damn professional job. Ah ... love tattoos as well

the mucus doesnt really affect nose piercings but its down right annoying having to blow your nose and clean your piercing everytime. i had a septum piercing for some years and i ended up taking it out due to that. it was embarassing when i blew my nose and the retainer flipped out and had to try and flip it up in public without people thinking im picking my nose!
