1. Soft toilet paper 2. Power strip to plug in stuff. 3. Plastic Shopping bags for easy trash bags tied to bed and within easy reach. 4. Gummy bears 5. Baseball Cap to shield from early am lights 6.Clips to hold call button 7. Hand gripper to hold for blood draw. 8. List of all your meds 9.Hot water maker 10. good slippers

1) Suitcase full of cloths. 2) Laptop. 3)Iphone. 4)reader tablet. 5)List of meds. 6)Paper and Pen. 7)Empty bags for all the ensure shakes they try to force feed me to take home. 8)Toothbrush. 9)Razor. 10)Small Hexbugs painted black to look like roaches, and a spider hexbug. I have gotten plenty of scares. They know they will be entertained when I come in.

lol!! I hear you Gorf...everytime I go in, they always put me on those shakes. I too wind up with so many to take home by the time my admission is up (which can last a month...now that's alot of Ensure! lol). They also order them 3 times a day....I might be able to choke down one of them haha. They never go to waste though, my son actually likes them so long as I get the right flavor (NO strawberry please!).

Let's see....unusual stuff. Power cord is probably the only thing I would consider unusual. The rest of the stuff I bring is all normal to me (computer, DVD's, books, Kindle, sketch pad and pencils, my own Kleenex, change of clothes for when I do go home, toothbrush, pillow, etc...)

OK, you are all making me feel absolutely ridiculous now! LOL...we just got out of a 10 day stay and I knew we were gonna be confined to the room cuz of the MRSA in the lungs.....so I did pack like I was staying for a bit....laptop, word searches, "med list" (they always ask and all the mgs/doses - sorry, I cant rattle off like 20-something meds with all that info too without my handy dandy list), it gets worse, make-up - cuz I knew i'd be bored outta my mind, all my toiletries, all the meds, supplies..next time I am bringing the vest machine...they had only this ancient one left....where the rubber pedal HAD to be pressed down to keep the machine running...no "on" button. So at first I had my son sit on it to keep it going! Then the therapist told me they usually stick it under the wheels its on....or under the IV pole wheels works too! :) Obviously enough clothes for me and my son - he insists on his bed clothes from home, not those lovely gowns...LOL! Nevermind now, his backpack full of things to do!!!! The worst part was leaving - all the things the child life specialist spoiled my son with - you'd think it was Christmas! We looked like we had stayed there for a month or longer when we left! Took a wagon, wheelchair and 3 people to take it all out! I'll never forget the looks upon sitting in the admission office with all the bags..waiting for them to clear up room issues...and then upon leaving. Priceless!

Ok here is mine;

1. Iphone, Ipad, Imac, Ipad mini, Ibuds, anything with apples and "I" 2. Sugar-soft vanilla cherry body scrub and wash 3. Colorful pj's, nightgowns and crazy colored socks. 4. Cheese spray-in-a-can 5. Secret night time only bag of lonely chocolates 6. Daily Union Jack newspaper 7. My whoopee blanket 8. My violin 9. Scotland's National Treasure Bagpipe Hits CD and boombox 10. dildo

1. Hair bands and bobby pins (I have a pixie cut but they constantly come in handy.)
2. French press and coffee (and coffee cup). Hospital coffee sucks and sometimes I want coffee at night.
3. My own pillow and blanket.
4. Folders (too many papers.)
5. My own towels.
6. My own bottle of pills.
7. Plastic bags for all of the neb cups I get; they're going to throw them away, so I might as well take them.
8. Dish soap, a sponge, a bowl, a pack of plastic cutlery, and a box of cereal.
9. Baby wipes and face wipes for days I can't shower.
10. A coffee cup to put pens and stuff in on the bed table.

Stuff my teenage daughter brings: 1.clothes(yoga pants and gamer/goth tee's, flip flops and a pair of Xtrainers for physical therapy. (She absolutely refuses to wear hospital gowns or those booties). 2. Her own blanket/comfoter and pillow ( hates the blankets too.) 3. Laptop, Wii, PS3 and cellphone 4. A powerstrip and chargers for all the above devices. 5 a small suitcase of full of just stuffed animals. 6. A large tube full of duplicate gamer and anime posters, (and some of her own artwork) and "poster putty" so that they can be put up and then removed without getting torn up. 7. Art stuff: sketchbooks, drawing pads, regular and colored pencils, charcols and pastels, erasers and sharpeners, and expensive inking pens that her daddy bought her. 8. 2 or 3 novels and/or anime graphic novels ( aka really long comic books. 9. Normal personal hygine stuff: toothbrush, hair brush, hair scrunchies, shampoo/conditioner and detangler. (her hair is really long. ....AND the most unusual item: 10. A string of christmas lights! She hates when the staff comes in at night and turns on the bright overhead lights, so she has a string of lights above her bed. They give off plenty enough light for the nurses to take vitals, do IV stuff or feeding tube stuff, but she can easily sleep with them on as well. In fact at the hospital she has become known for them. All the staff always love to visit her room in the evening all year round becase the say it's "festive"!

Oh...this is fun!!! I always bring a small lamp for ME! The lights are either really bright, or too dim to read. The "reading"light above my son is always pathetic! We tried Christmas lights, but the engineering dudes came by and told us we couldn't hang electric Christmas lights in the room, only battery operated lights. Extra bags to carry all the crap home in. Lego's. Slip-on shoes. Scissors and tape...gotta decorate the door. An ungodly amount of socks. Kindle, laptop, chargers and headphones. Easy Mac. This list could go on forever!!!

What NOT to bring...your favorite robe. Your "nice" socks...we have lost many pairs when the tech comes in and changes the sheets. A hair dryer...no, just no. Mad-libs...I mean REALLY? Jenga, Child-life is going to shove that game down your throat.

Damn.. that's a lot of things!

I myself like to keep things simple. I sure wouldn't need everything you listed. I can spend hours doing nothing and just thinking of stuff without getting bored. Though I usually bring my laptop loaded with games, movies and TV shows and my antenna that allows me to hack wifi networks around the hospital, there are times when I ended up in hospital without anything to entertain myself and I found that having nothing else to do but to "wait" is actually beneficial for the mind. Knowing that you can't find stimulation anywhere forces you to stop seeking it and to slow down. Instead, you just rest, think of things, listen to the sound of what's happening around. It actually feels good and I enjoy it.

Then of course I bring clothes, personal hygiene stuff and a pillow. I love the christmas light idea. I already have some around my bed at home, I could bring them to the hospital when I go. The staff would like it.

As a kid, there is nothing much I would bring to entertain myself either. The playroom already had loads of very interesting stuff to do and games to borrow. They would also lend movies to watch during the evening when the playroom was closed. Each room on the pediatric department has its own TV and DVD player.

I brought christmas lights on my last hospital stay like I said I would do. I was a huge success! The medical staff, visitors, roomates absolutely loved it! :D Thanks for the idea!
