OK, MY DAUGHTER HAS ALWAYS BEEN EXTREMELY HEALTHY. NO PROBLEMS. EXCEPT WE HAD AN ISSUE WITH CONSTIPATION ONLY SINCE POTTY TRAINING. SHE WAS AFRAID OF THE POTTY. NEVER HAD ANYTHING THEN THE COMMON COLD, SHE IS GROWING PERFECTLY. SHE IS FOUR YRS OLD. SHE RECENTLY GOT SICK AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH PNEUMONIA. WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED FROM ASPIRATING ON SOME VOMIT 5 DAYS PRIOR TO HER ILLNESS. SO PED JUST WANTED TO BE CAREFUL AND RAN A SWEAT TEST. SHE ORDERED BOTH ARMS TO BE DONE BUT HOSPITAL ONLY DID ONE. IT CAME BACK 44. SO SHE SENT US FOR GENETIC LABWORK WHICH I DID THAT SAME DAY. NOW IT IS A WAITING GAME. I AM GOING POSTAL AND CAN ONLY THINK TO COME HERE FOR ANSWERS. PED DOESN'T SEEM WORRIED AT ALL, I MAYBE OVERACTING ON HER REACTION BUT DANG! I ALSO HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD, SO NOW I AM WORRYING MYSELF TO DEATH ABOUT HER HAVING IT ALSO. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT TAKES ABOUT 2 WEEKS FOR RESULTS. ANYONE OUT THERE GO THRU THIS WITH NO SYMPTOMS BUT HIGH SWEAT LEVELS

I know it is not easy, but breath.

44 is not "high", it is borderline. In addition, if it was done anywhere other than a CF center the results are not reliable at all.

Is it possible the genetic test will show CF, yes....is it likely from what you describe, not in my opinion.

It is frustrating to wait on results, and many parents here can relate greatly.

The only thing you can do is remember, they ran the test as a CYA. From your description there was little or no justification to sweat-test, but once they got the borderline result, the standard is to go the genetic screen to be sure.

Just keep breathing, play with your kids and cross your fingers. We will cross ours as well for you <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I do know how scary that waiting period is -- I'm so sorry you are dealing with it.

Sweat tests can be elevated by malnutrition or dehydration. If your daughter had pneumonia, she could have been somewhat dehydrated too. Aspiration pneumonia is different than regular pneumonia and is unlikely to be a CF symptom.

Best of luck -- I think you have good reason to stay hopeful that this isn't CF.
