My son's CF doctor encourages trampoline jumping - we take him to a gym during winter months where he takes classes that include trampoline time.

But if you plan to buy one for outside, check your homeowner's insurance policy: some will allow it but some will cancel you if they find out you have one; trampolines are a huge liability - the professional group for pediatricians strongly urges that nobody have a trampoline at home due to a high rate of injuries and this is what the insurance companies' lawyers are hearing.

We use one for my son and yes it does seem to break up the mucus a little and is great exercise. It is also great for drying towels/clothes in the sun (to save energy on dryer useage) and for lying on at night and watching the stars.

Certainly having the sides and spring covers on are a good start to safety but the biggest risk is having more than one person on at a time. There is huge risk of collision but what most people are not aware of is the shock of one person bouncing upward while another is coming down. If you come down while the tramp surface is springing back up, serious injury (broken legs, ankles, etc.) is likely. The surface has a lot of force on the way up and can easily injure anyone especially children. I believe there is a safety alert that states children under 6 should not be on a full size trampoline.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) wants you and your family to be safe when using trampolines. The CPSC estimates that in 2001 there were 91,870 hospital emergency room-treated injuries associated with trampolines. About 93 percent of the victims were under 15 years of age, and 11 percent were under 5 years of age.</end quote></div>

Also, playing on the trampoline is fun and good exercise but not a substitute for CPT.

Our elderly neighbor was always telling us that insurance companies would drop you or raise rates if you had a trampoline; however, it's not the case with our provider.

Ours has an enclosure, only one person at a time, remain in the center, no flips... Oh and not only is it great for looking at stars, but is nice when the National Fireworks Convention comes to our town in the fall. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
