And the most exciting news of all is that the young woman featured in the article was transplanted in the beginning of October.

That is great news (about the girl getting her new lungs). I really dont understand this process. The lungs looked really diseased. How can they harvest and use diseased lungs like that?

That girl in the article is me!!! I feel so lucky that my wait was short (3 months), because I now realize how sick I was. For all of us past and future transplant patients in the New England area, we are so lucky to have Brigham & Women's conducting all this fabulous research that I'm certain will get people better lungs faster.

I believe they've already done 2 or 3 perfusion cases (not actually transplanting the lungs into a patient yet), and once they've done 5 they can seek FDA approval. Hopefully they won't see too much red tape along they way.
