Traveling with the Vest

Hi, I have the new vest (newest one, its pretty small), and am interested in traveling with it to Europe. Was wondering if any of you have done this, and what the deal is with getting a converter, and does it really work well? I know you can get American-European adapters for plugs, but do they mess up the rhythm of the air flow in the vest? Also, have any of you had any problems with bringing the vest in the airport, i.e. questions etc. from security. Thanks Caitlin

Catlin, If you are going to be in Europe for a long time, like a few months to study, then perhaps bring it with you, but only if you're not into using the flutter, acapella, and a good ol' beating. The new vest IS small and really helpful at home, but traveling with it is a PAIN. I was going to take mine to ALabama for a month the last time i went to visit my father. I had my doc write a letter stating what it was for. When I got to check-in, I was told that it was too big to carry-on (it had a duffle bag, and it was really too heavy for me to carry), so it would have to be checked. I asked if I could check it at the gate like a stroller, because we all know how damaged luggage can get at the airport. So I lugged it to security, where they took everything out of the bag. Needless to say they had never seen anything like this before, I explained what it was used for and showed them my note. I think they made a note of my name and what flight I was on (which I didn't particularly like). Anyway, it was so heavy to carry in the airport and such a hassle, I ended up shipping it home before I returned. I don't know if you've ever been to Europe before, but traveling there is exausting. You can take the vest, but I'm gonna suggest not to. Sometimes I take it on road trips, but I usually just travel with my accpella or flutter, and do autogenic drainage and that works fine.Debbie22 yr old w/ CF

I think since the newest verision of the vest is under 20 pounds, it wouldn't be too difficult to travel with. I am sure you wouldn't have much trouble carrying on a plane.

The vest company will tell you that if you are going to have to check the vest, you have to put it back in the carton so that it is protected. We bought a lightweight luggage dolly--it straps the box on with bungee cords- and then it can be wheeled.

Thanks thats good to know. But I just came back from Hawaii and I definitely need to pack lighter. I can't imagine taking the Vest even though its only 17 pounds. I just got the vest when I came back.

Well, i think the most problem is the changing in the electrical outlets and stuff.. it varies from countries.. this is coming froma girl who had her vest shipped for 300 dollars to europe then it exploded after a while.. because of the voltage.. Goodluck,

Well, i am the one who first posted. I actually called the vest company to see what the deal was, and they told me that they had specifically designed the vest so that it could be taken anywhere in the world, and would work there provided you got the proper adaptor. I am skeptical of this but they assured me that it was. I have the newest vest, the 17 pound one. Its still pretty heavy though, i am a weakling! I want to bring the bag for it to a luggage store, and see if they can put some kind of frame on it with wheels so that it could be like a rolling suitcase.

Actually I think if you go to the luggage store they may have a briefcase the larger kind that the Vest will fit into. Or better yet look on the internet under briefcase. I have friends that have them that roll that are very sturdy. I too am a weakling , especially when it comes to travelling. Especially if you have to hurry.
