Trouble Breathing

I have trouble breathing even with all my medicines. When I tell my doctor, his only response is that I shouldn't be having trouble because I have full lung function. Should I try to push this? Or is it normal to have trouble breathing even when your tests come back full capacity? It gets worse when I miss doses, but even when I don't I still have difficulty.

If something doesn't feel right to you I wouldn't let it go, your doctor isn't you so he can't know how you feel. Do you have asthma or take any meds to control it? I know sometimes even when I finish abx for an exacerbation my asthma flairs up for a while and I feel worse even if I'm not coughing as much. What does your pulse ox usually run?

Maybe they should look into other reasons why you might have shortness of breath. Have the docs checked out your heart and it's function? Also, bad anemia will make you short of breath easier. As you can see, there are other reasons for shortness of breath, I would definitely persuit an answer if it is disrupting your life and it sounds like it is. I think when we present with diseases such as CF, docs get tunnel vision. They need to look outside of the box if the lungs are checking out okay.
Hope everything works out,
Jenn

I agree with Jenn. There are many reasons for shortness of breath. I have asthma and I'm "borderline anemic". I have a lot of difficulty with shortness of breath.

I would make your doctor take you seriously. If not, find another doc who will listen. Let us know what you find out.

If your doctor is a CF doctor then he is a pulmonary specialist. He may not know as much about general problems that could be only minimally related to CF. I would go to a general practitioner if your CF doctor doesn't want to look into it further. A general practitioner may not know much about CF but he would know what other things that could cause shortness of breath.

I had blood tests run for anemia and a heart echo a few years ago before I was diagnosed with CF to determine why I had trouble breathing and why I was so light headed most of the time and everything came back normal. After I was diagnosed with CF the doctors assumed they'd found the cause of my breathing problems and my lightheadedness was just ignored, even though I keep bringing it up to my CF doctor and both problems are still there.

Your dignature says you have CF & 8 other diseases...so maybe one of them is causing breathing issues as well?
I know that my mitochondrial disease doesn't cause my breathing problems but they said it is possible to compound the lung issues. (Both contribute to digestive issues, which is my main problem right now)

If it isn't possible that one of these other issues to cause lung issues then you may want to get another doctor to give you his/her thoughts? I wish you the best of luck in figuring this out.
