So this is kind of gross.... but I am 31 weeks pregnant, and am pretty much constipated. I am taking my enzymes (Ultrase MT20's) and am just unable to get anything out.. I was sitting on the bowl before in tears because my stomache hurts so bad, i have to go, but NOTHING!! I have heard that Milk of Magnesia & Metamucil are okay to take while pregnant... I was just wondering if anyone else had any suggestions? Or if this happened to any of you towards the end? I read that its very common to get constipated while pregnant, and I would imagine it's especially common for us CF'ers who have digestive problems to begin with anyways!

I'm in sooooooooooo much pain <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

If you're in pain, I think it's time to page someone from your CF team or OB to ask for advice. I'm not pregnant, but I take miralax and it works well, but not instantly. It can even take a couple days for it to kick in for me. Ask your OB and CF doc if Miralax or other laxatives are ok with pregnancy. I know Colace is ok, but your constipation sounds like it might be more of a CF related bowel obstruction and I'm not sure colace will do the trick. Plus, Miralax is much easier to tolerate (no cramping).

Page one of your docs for sure. I'm willing to be they'll send you to the ER.

Hey Tina,

I'm sorry you're hurting <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> I would call your OB and see if there's anything you can take.

I have had slight constipation since becoming pregnant. It's completely normal during pregnancy to become more contipated (especially after birth too).

Call your doctor about it so you can get some relief.

I don't have CF, but I know what being pregnant and constipated is all about! I used to joke that we get to practice delivery for nine months. If it turns out to not be a CF problem, what I would do is load up on salads and apple juice. Sometimes walking will make you have to go as well.

I believe those prenatal vitamins cause a lot of the constipation (good for the hair and nails, as long as you don't bite them off or pull it out on the toilet), and the fact that you have a little rugrat using your intestines for a pillow can't help things move along as well.

Good Luck to You!
(I still think there should be side effects for men).
