Havoc has a good point. I would call CF Respiratory Team member ask if your son can do his breathing treatment while jumping up and down on a couch or bed or even one of those work out trampolenes. And then just give him a choice, "johnny" do you want to do your vest with your nebbies or do you want to jump on the bed??? And then give him a special reward, maybe just a STAR on a daily neb chart and after he collects a certain number of Stars, you take him to Toy R Us and buy him something (any type of reward that is special). 18 months is hard, there wasn't even a vest when my daughter was 18 months so it was always, jump on my lap and we will watch the Big Comfy Couch together while Mommy gives you PT. Maybe you could try a hand procussor??? My daughter used to fall asleep while I was doing it, and it was really nice bonding time for us both.
GOOD LUCK, and God Bless!

A couple more thoughts. . . this has to be so hard, huggggs. . . what about doing the breathing treatments separate from the vest (sorry if I misunderstood) and let him run around with the vest. . . . My son sometimes doesn't do both together well. Or, what about doing manual percussions while he is sleeping for 2 of the "treatments?"

Reedfamily,
I just had another thought: I had very similar issues with oral medications for my toddler old and this approach was the "blue print" for success. It was horrible for the first week, but then was not a moment of fuss. And it works with all new oral meds. The same approach should work for the nebulizer and vest but it is very hard to follow unless you are committed to following it to a T. For me, it was actually easier because once someone told me what to do I said "fine, I'll do this" and then was not upset by the big green monster waiting inside too-tight jeans! ;-) I really think you should give this a try. Maybe wait until the weekend or when you can have help to get through the first few days because they are the hardest, but trust in it because it works. And you need an approach you can do forever not just now. (This author is a therapist, nutritionist, etc.)

Please update how it goes or PM if you want any more details on the approach/pep talk on the approach!!!
hugs

My parents used to do it toowhen I was sleeping too with a mask on and I hated it, so when I was a little bit older I was given a choice to do it with the mask or with the nebs. It still wasn't my favorite but Iturned on the T.V to my favorite shows and picked the neb option instead.
i also agree 100% withHavoc about the staying active part. I was put on the swim team when I was just 3 years old for that veryreason, and when I got a little aolder I was able to choose my own sportwhich was soccer. The goal was to keep me active on a team for as much of the year as possible, usually consisting of4-5 days of pure physical activity. Take advantage ofall the kids activities (off the top of my head I can think of recreational soccer, select soccer, competitive soccer, recreational swimming, competitive swimming, tennis, dance, exc.) while they are young, they willunderstand the joy of the sport and teammworkbut most importantly you will know you are doing everything you can to keep yourchild healthy, at least until they are 18.
