I just asked my daughters shool about a 504 plan...and was told she does not need one because her grades were good.
but from everything I've read online this is not true.
She is 11 w cf and has missed alot of school this year..
Next tuesday she will be going in the hostipal for 2 weeks.
So I guess we will see what the school does about all the missed days

Julie~ PLEASE do not 'wait and see' what the school does about all the missed days.

Request, in writing, a meeting to discuss medical accommodations for your daughter. In this letter, tell them that you are well aware of your daughter's academic achievement but that you want to ensure your daughter's success at school with necessary medical accommodations due to her cystic fibrosis. Tell them you are requesting an educational 'team meeting' to set up either a 504 plan as legally provided for under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), or an IEP under the category of 'other health impairment' as provided for by IDEA (Individuals With Disabilities Education Act.)

They are legally required to respond to your letter within a very short timeframe to then schedule this meeting with you within a certain number of school days (this varies by state; contacting your local board of education can help you with procedure rules here. It likely wouldn't be before your dd is out of the hospital, but writing the letter 'starts the clock' on the process.) If a parent requests a meeting for this purpose, they are required by law to hold it. Please see my above links for more information on this process. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Yes, Julie that is totally untrue and is exactly what my daughter's school tried to say in the beginning also. Can someone from your CF clinic give them a call? That's what mine did and next thing I knew we had a 504 meeting scheduled. Good luck.
