Tube and limitations

I hope I didn't come across as to negative. I was trying to point out the bad points so you would know what to expect.

My little girl has no problems with her G-tube and is not self concious about it at all. however, She's 4 and got it when she was 3. Really doesn't know anything else and isn't at the age to be self concious. We have a friend with an older girl with CF that recently got one. And she was slef concious about it at first. However, when your weight and health "explode" and you're overall look is much heathier, that little button doesn't look that bad after all. And for swimming, if you are self concious you could wear a shirt or get a big bandage to put over it.

To those of you with boys, do ya'll have to worry about rough housing? We don't worry about Emily at all, but girls aren't as rough as boys. She played soccer this year, but thats border line contact. I would think football and wrestling you would have to stay away from. But to be honest, if you need a tube and didn't have one you wouldn't be strong enough for those sports anyway. Basketball, soccer, baseball, etc, those are all open.

The worst thing that would happen is you pull the tube out. Happened to our friends little boy. He cried for a little, but they just put it back in and everything was fine.

I really see this as a no risk decision. Other than you do have to go under for sugery, I really don't see any significant down sides to it. If you don't like it, remove the tube and let the hole heal. Scars aren't that bad for boys.

My boys haven't had any problems. Both play sports (although not football or wrestling) and do scout activities. Of course, being brothers they do rough house too. SO far so good.
