The article said something along the lines of Dr.'s extracting something from the Tumeric and it helps with the break up of Mucus....Has anyone else heard/read this? If this is true why can't we...ppl with CF start taking the Tumeric and putting it in our food?Thankx.....

You can buy a capsule with 500mg of the extract. It's called curcumin.I've already started my son 7w/cf on it. They say 3 a day but since it's not proven in humans I'm giving him 500mg (one pill) a day and I will watch to see if he reacts in anyway. So far on day 5 he is fine. Same old kid LOL!

See the previous Curry Fights CF posts... Has article link on it. But also it stress do not self medicate because they do not know what type of reaction the curcumin would have on the medications the CFer is already on. It might nullify it. They are supposed to be doing a study this summer....

Hi, im 21, male, and i was diagnosed at birht with CF, i have recently heard of the research involving Tumeric as well, it went on at Yale University, and i heard that there is no real results and that there is not enough of the curcumin in everyday foods or in the over the counter pills to do anything, and further more they said that you should not try to self medicate with it. I have my checkups, appointments, hospitalizations, etc. at UNC Chapel Hill, which is the leading specialists of CF, and i have discussed this with Dr. Boucher, he is the head of most everything CF there, and he says that he is sceptical of the research involving curcumin. I really trust his opinion, he has never not had an answer to any of my questions, so that proves alot to me. If you are really interested in new drugs that have real potential, look into the INS study that Inspire Pharmaceuticals is involved in, that is the closest thing to a cure so far, they are seeking FDA approval now.
