Tune Ups - but not sick?

How many of you have gone in for tune ups when you don't even feel sick, but you're just really short of breath, your numbers are down, lost weight, etc?

You'd think if you have all that going on you would feel 'sick', but it doesn't always work that way. I think it's b/c of what we get used to before you actually feel sick.

I'm going to do a tune up to help with my shortness of breath (b/c it's bad), weight loss, down to the low end of my already low fev1 range, but I just feel fine otherwise. It always seems so strange to be sitting in a hospital for 2 weeks when you feel okay. You know?

Does anyone know where I'm coming from on this one?

The nurses usually come in my room and say, "oh, who's the patient?" b/c I don't look sick. You know, that whole song and dance..... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> Oh well. It feels like you get judements made on you like, this is for people who are really sick, not you. It almost makes me feel bad that I'm there taking up bed space from someone else who might feel awful.

It's a double edged sword. If people could see how messed up you were on the inside they'd know, but instead we have the ability to hide how we feel most of the time b/c our exterior doesn't match our medical records always.

well....I'm glad you are going in for a tune-up. Even if you feel OK....those are all classic signs of problems. I do my tune-ups at home.....so, my life is not really that much different when I am on IV's. I understand where you are coming from though with feeling fine. My last round of IV's the only symptom I had was a slight decline in FEV1 and some increased stuff. It is soooo much easier to kick it before it gets out of control though....I really think that is why docs tend to be so aggressive plus they want to protect our FEV1 range. Hope you can hook-up and keep in touch with us. Sending hugs your way!

Based on your description, I'd say you are sick and you need that tune up. I usually go into the hospital feeling pretty crappy but then sometimes I "recover" quickly. And even though my FEV1 might not be back up to baseline, everyday I question my doc, "should I REALLY be here?" Of course she says yes. I hope the 2 weeks flies by for ya. Good luck!

It sounds like you are sick to me as well. You dont want to wait until you "feel" it because then its probably pretty bad. Remember that sometimes things are so subtle....you dont realize how bad you were until you are better.
