Tune ups

When do you all think is the best time for a tune up? I was thinking about Christmas, as we get Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years - This are three vacation days that I wouldn't have to take. I could save up some vacation time to pad around that .. It's really slow here at work around that time, so it would be easy to do them around that time. However, IV's at Christmas seem depressing. What do you all of you do?

I am soooo new to this IV thing. I don't really understand why anyone would have to go into the hospital for a tune-up. My doc has me do them at home and I find that very very easy!! My life changes very little. I understand if you are having some major problems, but, if you are well overall and are just doing a basic tune-up it seems reasonable to be at home. I eat better at home, I have a treadmill at home, no contamination issues at home.

The only reason I go in is to start the abx. I get the PICC placed, which can sometimes be an issue and then they are able to monitor my first few doses of the meds. They check kidney function in the first few doses and then if they are fine I go home. I also hate being in the hosp, but I feel more comfortable at least starting in the hospital.

For me it depends on how I am feeling. before 2007 I went in the hospital for tunes once every few years. The last time I was in was Jan 2004. But then in the last few months I kept catching bugs I couldn't get rid of and was in 2x in 3 months. You know your body better than anyone and if you feel you are not where you would like to be then abx are probably the way to go. When I go in I am usually in for 8-14 days. It depends on how I bounce back. My Dr likes to get as much gunk out as we can before he sends me back home. Being in the hosp is no fun but the routine is there and it is much more effective for me and clearing the bugs out. I would never be able to stick to the 4x a day treatment schedule in the hosp.

So basically what my rambling means is that if you feel you need one then do it. It won't hurt! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

As far as meds that is going to be your Dr's call. They will have to check and see what drugs your PA is sensitive to and go from there.
