Tuneup Time?

I recently moved from a smaller CF center to the UW Medical Center in Seattle. I've been on and off oral antibiotics since March, including multiple month or 2 week treatments of Cayston, and a ton of Septra, Augmentin, and then, recently, a Prednisone burst, then another one right now, all prescribed my my hometown doctor (I'm now in Seattle for college.) Should I talk to my UW doctor about a tuneup? I've never had one done before, so I'm not quite sure what the reasons are for one, but I feel as if I should have gotten better a long time ago, I'm pretty healthy overall and haven't been at baseline in a year. Any advice? And, maybe a quick rundown on what a tuneup actually entails?
Thanks!

I would talk to the doctor at the CF center where you are. There is no reason getting a tune up, especially if it's a first one ever that it should stop you from school. Go in get a PICC line, on a weekend get trained on how to administer meds through it, and be back at school on Monday. It's not rocket science. You obviously know a tune up is what you need so get one. Don't prolong anything! Tune up entails usually as follows:

In hospital tune up:

Go in get IV/PICC line
Start usually Tobi IV and one other med, varies depending on what you culture.
My other med usually ends up being, Piperacillin and Tazobactum. This is different for everyone.
So depending on how they are run in patient you should except IV's every 6-12 hours depending on the med. Some doctors run Tobi Q12 in the hospital and Q24 once you leave. Most of the secondary drugs will stay Q6-8 depending.
CPT or Vest 4 times daily
Pulmozyme twice daily
Albuterol and Hypertonic 4 times.

When doing everything at home things change, you have a life.... it's hard to do 4 times daily if you have a job and are working it. But you can NOT miss IV doses no matter what. It really all depends... expect 2 weeks min.

Yeah, sounds like you need a good clean out....I would get on it before it gets worse, most importantly, so that you feel better soon. You might feel crappy the first few days on the IV's, but once things start to loosen up, you will feel better. Good luck, I will be thinking of you

Yeah see if you can do home IV therapy and still make classes. Waiting until you have a break might really do some damage.

Hey the Doctors work for you, you're paying them, they are your employee. So if you think your car is making a funny sound would you wait to take it to a mechanic? Or you take to him explain your concerns and tell him you want it fixed? Another thing from experience, College is NOT high school. Take time to see your instructors (I bet your paying to go to that school) and explain your situation. If they are anything like the ones I had, they will be more than helpful in possibly letting you do class stuff from home or come to a different class. I had one Professor (who was a real pr*ck in the class room) arranged for his TA to come to the hospital for two weeks and fill me in on what I missed in class. His point was college is not just what you learn in class but also learning to be responsible for yourself.

Glad you have an appointment the 24th don't walk out unless YOU ARE totally satisfied with the plan, also you have seven days to talk with your instructors and see what alternatives you have for classes.
