Tuneup Time?

Hey the Doctors work for you, you're paying them, they are your employee. So if you think your car is making a funny sound would you wait to take it to a mechanic? Or you take to him explain your concerns and tell him you want it fixed? Another thing from experience, College is NOT high school. Take time to see your instructors (I bet your paying to go to that school) and explain your situation. If they are anything like the ones I had, they will be more than helpful in possibly letting you do class stuff from home or come to a different class. I had one Professor (who was a real pr*ck in the class room) arranged for his TA to come to the hospital for two weeks and fill me in on what I missed in class. His point was college is not just what you learn in class but also learning to be responsible for yourself.

Glad you have an appointment the 24th don't walk out unless YOU ARE totally satisfied with the plan, also you have seven days to talk with your instructors and see what alternatives you have for classes.

I am inclined to say that it is tune up time, but there are a few things I would work out first:

1. Get tied in with your school's disability service. They can advocate for you and pretty much make your professors let you miss class/make up work but only if you work things out with them ahead of time. They might be able to help you with other things, too. During undergrad, disability services arranged/paid for a cab to the nearest cf center, which was 45 minutes away, since I didn't have a car.

2. What is your center's policy on giving you a picc and letting you go? During undergrad, that center had no problem with it. The center near my grad school required me to stay in for the 2 weeks.

3. If you live on-campus, do you have access to a large refrigerator? Most, if not all, IV meds need to be refrigerated, and the little cubes that a lot of people have simply aren't big enough. To put it in college terms, I could fit a couple 30-racks in my fridge and it was just big enough to fit my meds and some food when I was on IVs.

4. If you have to, can you take a few days off to go in? I know it's midterms season, but after. A few days of the extra repiratory therapy can really help (and it's not a bad place to catch up on homework, or tv for that matter).

Printer, OneDucky, Havoc- Thank you. I'm going to call them tomorrow. They 'can't' move the appointment to any sooner than next Monday...:/
BikerEd- Thank you, that was really reassuring about schools. I will definitely, definitely talk to my professors. I just hate being the nuisance that they have to deal with, and I do not want to withdraw, even just for a quarter.
Carmick- I'm in touch with the disability services office, I have an appointment with them next Tuesday, after my appointment. We'll see what they say, then. I do have a fridge, but I've never been to this clinic before, I have no idea what their policies are. Usually, I'd just call them up and see me, but I just moved here and haven't even seen them for an initial appointment yet. I hate to miss class, I hate being behind, but if I'm sick, it's what needs to be done.
Thanks so much, everyone.
