Turning Point

<span style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; color: black; font-size: 9pt;">I am 33 going on 34 soon. =) I have been dealing with a lot in my life over the past few years and I have figured it is time to make a change while I can. I created a web page to start what would be my dream. However I have always worked for everything in my life and am having trouble getting past the idea of asking others for help.
<span style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; color: black; font-size: 9pt;">I have never used CF as an excuse or crutch. In all seriousness most people other than my family don't even know I have CF. Not that I would care if they did I just don't bring it up or mention it. It is not who I am and does not define me. I would rather have people know me for me.
<span style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; color: black; font-size: 9pt;">I have not advertised the page because of those reasons. I would want people to help because of the cause not because of CF. Yet, I know that CF is a part of who I am and why I am the way I am and too truly explain where I am coming from people need to know about that part of me.
<span style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; color: black; font-size: 9pt;">I guess my question is would you ever use CF to accomplish something (your dream) that would help so many others? Having trouble with it.
<span style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; color: black; font-size: 9pt;">If you would like to see the page I created let me know but I did not want to put a link to it here for the same reasons I stated above.

Well, are you truly helping others, or is there some other motive? If you are using it to help others, why not?? I would love to see your page, you can send it to me in a message if you like. Here's mine: http://whocaresllc.blogspot.com/

Can't wait to see what you are doing!

I don't usually just CF as a crotch either. I have my own blog, I'd make my own site, but this is much easier....

I guess it might be difficult to make a judgement without seeing the site. However, lots of people raise money for lots of different diseases without having them. So, I would think that if you wanted to keep the fact that you personally have CF private, it could be easily done.

The question is too vague for me to answer. It depends on what that 'thing' is. Use my Cf? Thats hard to say, but I doubt it. I don't think I've ever used my Cf for anything major in life. If you gave a for instance it would be easier to think about though. If you're talking about cf walks, awarness, etc then I think thats great. If its something for someone's personal gain then thats different.
I think its great for what its worth, that you've taken control of your ship so to speak, and feeling empowered for your life.

Ok, I have to laugh at myself it should say crutch not crotch. (He He) I am going to put a link to the page and please tell me what you think.

https://www.wepay.com/donations/creating-a-healthier-tomorrow

What I want to do would not only help people with CF but would help everybody become a little healthier. It is a big undertaking and I know that but I am willing to put in the work to accomplish it. My only issue is getting it started.

Again I would want people to help because of what it represents not because of CF. However I feel that without some sort of background of why I feel the way I feel or why now at this point in my life I am looking to drop everything and pursue my dream, some of the reason is lost.

You can all let me know what you think, I truly want your opinions. Like I said before this isn't something easy for me to do but I know to even have a chance at making the dream a possibility I will need the help of others.

I think you need to be much more specific and narrow things down to one project to start out with.

Your goals are a little vague. You mention a company where employees are taken care of and it's a family environment. I'm assuming you are speaking of the company you wish to start. I really don't see a business model for income (other than donations) for this company, especially when you wish to donate a quarter of your annual income to charity. Furthermore, unless you are able to start a national chain of these businesses, you're really only going to have the ability to impact a few hundred people at best.

I think that it's noble for you to want to help others, but there are ways of doing that on a less grandiose scale that can have just as much impact. This site, for example. Here you have the ability to give advice or answer questions to over 13K registered users and a myriad of guests. Another route could be doing something in your community. I think you'll have a much easier time getting donations from a community where everyone has the chance to benefit from the project. I am involved with our local creative arts center, which is 100% volunteer. We offer regular art classes, musicians, zumba classes, coffee houses, book reviews, theatrical productions etc. all free to the public.

These might seem like small scale things, but you would be surprised how many people appreciate things like this and how deeply they can be affected in positive ways. Sometimes, the simplest things have the most impact.

I was a paramedic for 10 years. Contrary to most people's perception, we aren't out saving lives every day. I would say 60-70% of our call volume isn't life-threatening stuff. With the exception of my own grandfather, I was never contacted by a patient or family members who's life was spared by my actions. The patients I got feedback from were the minor emergencies, where all you might have done was give them something for nausea or simply just listen.

I know it is one big undertaking/project but I truly feel a strong passion for it. I know that if I can get it off the ground it would help so many people. You are correct that it would be only able to help people regionally at first but once off the ground other location would be able to open. However when I say regionally I mean it, it would be able to help thousands of people at one location not just hundreds.
I do agree that doing small projects or helping locally is just as important but this is something I have been wanting to do for some time now. I have looked at figures and crunched numbers as well as have a business plan but without the help of others I would never be able to get this dream off the ground.
With all of the talk about how important it is to stay healthy to combat so many illnesses as well as to extend the life of those who are sick, I can't turn my back on this dream. I see so many people who do not have the means to be able to work out and get healthy / stay healthy. There are so many kids who just don't understand how exercises can be fun and rewarding. There are some many reasons that I can't give up on this idea but instead need to find away to make it a reality.
You are right I did not put a business plan or truly explain the company. I didn't feel that was needed on the site but maybe it is. I guess I was just trying to give people the overall concept and let them know where I am coming from as well as what the idea was behind the dream.
Maybe your right though, I am thinking too big. However I guess that sometime thinking big is what is need to truly make a difference and a change.
Thank you for your help, you did give me a lot to think about. =)
