Unhealthy air alert

The EPA just issued an unhealthy air alert for our area of Massachusetts because of the high temps contributing to increased ozone. If we were at home, we would keep the boys inside with AC on, but we are renting a beach house without AC. The temps here have been much lower and there is a constant ocean breeze.

My question is, is the air quality better at the shore?

Subjectively, I notice a huge difference between my home in Pittsburgh and my parents home about 70 miles SW in the mountains. I would assume that the sea breeze and being away from a large metropolitan area would contribute to a lower particulate matter index, and perhaps slightly lower ozone.

The sea breeze is much better than the typical air quality in the city or surrounding area. Sitting in ocean air is like getting a mini dose of hypertonic! My doc sends me to my Florida keys home when I'm beginning to get run down for this very reason.
Just remember that bc of the breezes near the ocean, you don't realize the heat as well and bc of that you can get dehydrated easily. Plus when kids are playing, the last thing they remember to do is stop and drink. So offer them liquids alot. Gatorade is best, and pretty much anything liquidy and cold they like.
Have fun!
