using Prednisone for exacerbations

I was on a very low dose (20mg?) for just 4 days in April. My PFTs had fallen sharply and I had a raging infection. I was in a lot of pain and very labored breathing, especially at night. I felt like my lungs were getting crushed. It was really the first time I had felt so bad, in so much pain.

But I'll tell ya! That prednisone is pretty cool stuff. It took away my lung pain almost immediately. (within hours of the first dose). I ended up in the hospital on IVs the next week because the infection wasn't responding to oral meds. I don't think it helped my PFTs at all, but I was in the middle of a big exacerbation at the time. I need more than just inflamation control.

My dose was on the low side. And it certianly was a short run. I didn't have any side effects (except feeling better!). I'm afraid of getting "stuck" on it long term. I had never used it before April. For me, it's a last resort.

Had it when I was 9. My issue was just unbelieveable broncho-spams and coughing so hard for hours at a time and throwing up constantly.

it did wonders for me. i ate a lot. i broke a few tv antenae (is that the plural? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">) and mom had to have me run around the block every two seconds cuz of the energy i had.

but it worked. there's always a risk, but if it's needed, they can really help if inflammation is the issue.

It works really well for me and other than being hungry and having a lot of energy I haven't experienced any side affects using it for about 5 days for an exacerbation.
