vaporizer vs. humidifier

My newborn daughter (no CF) has a cold and a nurse told me to use a humidifier rather than a vaporizer, as vaporizers can actually dry out the passages more. Is that true? I'm wondering if there was some sort of misunderstanding, it just doesn't make sense to me. I've been coughing a little more (Amelia sleeps with me so the vaporizer faces me) so to me it is working well.

Nothing online about it-actually vaporizers boil the water so are cleaner. Thanks for responding. I think I'll stick with my vaporizer. Maybe she meant not to use a vapor rub like Vicks.

I'm not sure about Vicks VapoRub. Is that good for us or bad? My mom thinks it would be good.. However, it says cough suppressent on the package. And that doesn't sound like something CFers need.
