I hear that. I decided years ago that I'd be a complete hypocrite if I was unable to kill an animal for food. So, I went deer hunting with some friends, shot a buck, and ate venison steaks for the next 10 months. (Not saying I am proud of any of this. Just wanted to prove a point to myself.)
To take this thread in a slightly different direction: perhaps check out your local farmers' markets and grocers for grass fed beef and other "humanely raised" livestock products.

I'd agree with hillthekhore and xin, you can be ethical about your meat intake without completely ruling it out.

I work in nutrition research. I don't think you'd miss out on calories, carbs and dairy have plenty. However, high biological protein (mostly only found in animal sources) is really really important in CF. So you could make your regular, daily diet high in fish, grains, vegetables, nuts and dairy then maybe once or twice a week have an organic, locally grown steak or something.

To me that would seem to be a fair trade-off in balancing your health and ethical issues.

On a side note I totally agree with you. Its something that pulls at my heart everytime I buy chicken or order chicken in a sandwich. The whole farming industry has lost its moral compass and the vast majority of consumers are clueless about modern practices. Globally we are heading for a food crisis. The western world has a massive over-supply and disgusting food-waste problems while in developing countries there are still people dying of hunger. Its so messed up. Good luck and well done for raising this topic.

I tried it .... just couldn't make it work. I lost massive amounts of weight. Then we found out I cannot tolerate soy. Since I took soy out of my diet my "bloated belly" is much less. I am a meat and potato kinda gal (careful on the potatoes).
