Vent, frustration

So I feel like a black cloud is following me around and just downpouring...My dog got into the garbage last week and apparently ate an ear of corn..Which is very dangerous for dogs...Can cause a bowel obstruction from the corn cob.. Had to bring the dog in for x-rays; fortuntately the dog threw up about 8 hunks of corn cob at the vets(from 6 days ago!) They induced vomiting 4 more hunks came up; phew avoided surgery so far...Maggie came down with a virus in the meantime, sore throat now coughing like crazy; so I brought her to the peds today...mistake..They were so busy... a PA saw us and was pretty clueless. Did a strep swab which was negative... Lungs clear, sat fine. I suggested strongly that Maggie needed just a few daysof prednisone to get through this virus..That got negged..Hmmmm. maybe if I didn;t suggest it it wouldbe presrcibed. Then she said the doc wants a culture; fine...She thought Maggie could get one in a cup; I said she can not..Do a throat swab explained how to do where to send it, how to order it . She had never done one before so all of a sudden she didn't think it was necessary. I said why? Just cause you don;t know how to do it? How stupid! Doc still wants it. The PA swabbed Maggie hopefully she sent it out the right way or what good is it. I got home and called our CF nurse gave her a quick rundown..The CF nurse said she would follow up on the culture...And my hubby is away, FIL having MAJOR surgery tomorrow...Sooo, it's tooo much. Hopefully the preliminary culture will be back in a couple days; if this coughing doesn't settle maggie will certainly need anti's... I gave the CF nurse a heads up about she'll be hearing from me again likley....Vent done for now....Let this rain cloud stop...

Oh, I'm sorry. You certainly are being rained on. I'm glad the dog is okay. I know that was scary. I had a very close call with my dog when he ate something once. Almost lost him.

It is always so frustrating when you can't see your regular doctor, and you have to train the medical staff. Ugh! I really hope Maggie is better soon.

Hope your FIL's surgery goes well. Sorry you are having to deal with all of this alone. Please keep us posted on everything.

Most of the time I won't even bother with a regular doctor, unless it's for something unrelated to CF. Our CF clinic is pretty good about taking symptoms over the phone when one of the kids get sick. We are an hour away from the clinic also, so they work with us when they can. Usually a nurse will call us back and get all the info and then talk to the doc about it, and then they call back and usually will call in ab'x or prednisolone - whatever it is that they think is needed.
