Vertebre pain

I have to sleep in a recliner due to my GERD. Shortly after starting my back started to hurt. I have a vertebre that feels bulgy and feels bruised. There is no visable bruise. In horrible back spasms almost constantly now. I also got a cold last week and my cough slighly increased---it is a dry cough.

The other day i asked my son to put gentlpressure on the sore vertebre and the pain was enough for me to cry out. My husband massages it gently and i can barely tokerate it except eventually it eases the pain. The past three days the spasms make me cough to exhaustion. I had the tummy flu on monday so i am wore out already.

My asthma drug pro air does help the cough somewhat but doesnt help the horrible back spasms or back pain.

When the back pain is the worst my arms and legs also hurt.... Like nerve pain. Felt suddenly cold and had chills for a short time during worst of pain. Had some numbness in arms and legs as well. Oh and pain radiates up my back and down my back even in pelvis.
Bulged disk??
Broken rib??? Muscle strain??

I dont know how to get help until insurance is recognized.

Hi,

Where is the pain the worst? Can you tell if it's originating in a certain spot in your back? I had a couple herniated discs, and I know at least once it was from coughing.

I had back spasms for several days once due to pain caused by Levaquin.
There are 2 things that helped. A hot shower and sleeping at 45° on a memory foam pillow. The pillow was like a miracle. For the first time in a week I felt the pressure in my spine releasing.

Go to Walmart and try to find one of those reaaally soft memory foam pillows with small holes all over them. Mine looks like this except it's green : http://www.myreststop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/PILLOW-BAMBOO-PLUSH-EXPOSED.jpg
It is very important for it do be SOFT. Many memory foam pillows are actually rather hard.

Try to sleep on that. Tell me if it helps.

Looks like it might be a stress fracture in my back. Taking this super serious and getting it checked... have an appointment with a spine doctor. Coughing.... falling in the bathroom... brittle bones may be the causes. Getting lots of blood work done and possible another bone density test soon. Also waiting to see if it will heal on its own before doing something radical... sometimes they heal without intervention. Right now doing gentle massages and heat. Already sleeping in a recliner at no less than 30 degree angle for acid reflux. Coughing is painful to say the least.
