Hi everyone!
We are somewhat new to the vest. Our daughter is six years old, and I am wondering how much do I push her to the max settings prescribed by the doc when she complains about it hurting. I need to hear from those of you with G-tubes/ports because I would like to know how painful it is to use the vest when you have these in place. The adults seem to have more of these which is why I am posting this here. Thanks for any help you can give us. I don't want to hurt her, but I want her therapy to be effective. We do have the foam piece with a hole cut into it which HillRom sent her.
Thanks for any help you can give us,
Michelle

I have the full length vest and have had my gtube for two weeks. Right now I still have to hold the bottom portion of my vest up and away from the tube because of some discomfort. I would look into getting a chest vest. I think that's what I am going to do.

I haven't had my g-tube for about 10 years, but I did have it for a while whle I first got my vest. My g-tube was the button type. It didn't hurt at all when I did my vest. I didn't like my g-tube moving around though so I used those 2"x3" bandaid brand bandaids (the type for large cuts). I wore one on over my button g tube every day when I was not using it. Just have to watch the skin can get raw from the adhesive.

i have a port and a g tube and i also use the full vest. I havent had any discomfort at all from either one when using the vest. the only time it is uncomfortable is when the area around my gtube is raw, then it get irritated more. But it really should hurt the tube at all! as for my port, i have never had pain with that. even when i am accessed i still use the vest. i just have to adjust it a little since the port is on my left chest just on the side of my breast. But it is never sore. if she is having pain maybe you should check with the dr about it because i dont know of anybody that has a port or gtube that hurts when used with the vest. hmm.. thats a stumper! sorry if i wasnt much help. (everyones pain level is different to! so i could just be above average on that a little so i dunno! hope things turn out ok and she can still use the vest! i know i hate it but it helps me out in the long run!)
