Need a little help with my vest... I read Amy's blog about the hz and all, and I'm kinda confused, not to mention realized I haven't been changing anything(especially after my bout with the liver infection- it took me a month to be able to use it again). I've just left it set at 8 hz and I guess the other number would be a pressure of 6? for 30 min., but I guess I should be changing it up. I have a hillrom 104, with a medium full vest. What do I do? What do I try?

The settings for my Vest were... 4 pressure with freq of 10/12/14. Each freq for 10 minutes or so.

I had the 104 then traded it in for the smaller more portable one. Whether it is 6 pressure or 4 doesn't matter. As Hillrom told me there really isn't a difference. But the freq's is what you need to focus on more. You can start with 10hz or 14hz for 10 minutes then work your way up or down from there.
hope that helps.
Just remember go easy, if you can't tolerate a paticular freq you can adjust it a bit or skip it and increase the durration as needed.

I adjust mine as described in Amy's blog but using chest vest I can tolerate full pressure so I havent been adjusting that (I am having a full one shipped) I do frequenceis of 6 8 9 18 19 20. My hillrom lady told me to use mine at frequency14 pressure7 all the time and it doesnt work nearly as well.ALso I am looking into getting one new hillroms because my cf clinic wont do the legwork on respiratech since hillrom will do all legwork on their side. IT is about 3000 to upgrade to a new hillrom and we have not been able to get an insurance to cover it at my clinic

Originally DS was 10, 12, 14 starting with pressure at 5 for 20-30 minutes twice a day -- increasing the pressure over time to 6. We do 10, 12, 14 with pressure at 7, 3 x a day. I seem to recall increasing the pressure to what you can tolerate is important, or did I imagine that?

I second Amy. The method Warwick encourages is very good. We can't tell you "magic" numbers because the numbers are based on how your breathing is effected and then are determined from that point. Shorter cycles like 5 minutes allows you to stop and take a break to huff cough. The way my doctor says it is if all you're going to do is shake the mucus around but not clear it you are doing no help and possibly harm since most cfers upper lobes are the effected areas the mucus breaks loose and settles into the lower lobes. Get that mucus out!!!

Well, part of it I'm sure was that I was reading it at 1am- lol; and then with my original 102, they had me change both the pressure and the frequency each time and not nearly as often as in your blog; come to think of it, I certainly don't think that had me change it more than 3 times for this new one (whatever the numbers were), but now with reading the settings here and again, I think I get it. I'll experiment a bit and see what works for me.

Don't worry- I wasn't looking for "magic" numbers, just a starting place .

Thanks so much, everybody!
