Vest Noise

I have read that some people are able to watch TV while doing their vest/nebulizer treatments.  I wish my DD could do that.  Her machines are so loud that we would have to turn the TV volume up so high that the neighbors could hear it (a slight exaggeration).  Even so, I wonder if there is something wrong with the machine that it is so loud or if that is just the way it is?<div><br></div><div>DD uses the Quick Start (Minnesota protocol) on the Respirtech vest, with the max set at 90%.   She does all of her nebulized medicines while she is using the vest, so we've got two machines running at once.  On the good side, this routine has kept her out of the hospital - no inpatient stays since she started on the vest 2 1/2 years ago.  I just don't want her end up losing her hearing.</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks in advance for any help/comments/suggestions.</div>

absolutely a possibility. in fact, Kathy who writes the "speeding past 50" section of CF Roundtable had custom made earplugs especially for use during treatments.

My DD has the Hill rom vest and Omron nebulizer. She can easily watch TV with this vest because it is not very loud. The Omron nebulizer is completely silent, but slower and battery powdered so not useful for all CF medicine. My DD, no CF, has hearing loss and we use noise cancelation head phones to decrease background noise without raising the volume of the TV. This may help your DD be able to watch TV and avoid hearing loss from the equipment noise.

I have the same problem! I have the really old vest and a loud nebulizer so TV does not work for me. I live in apartments so the neighbors really could hear if I turned the TV loud enough to hear! I found that using headphones and watching things on hulu or movies on the computer works well. I find that even though my machines make a lot of noise, since the buds are in my ears I really don't need the volume to be any louder than normal so you don't have to worry about hearing loss. I know treatment time can be pretty boring even for us adults so I hope you find a solution soon!

When I'm nebbing and vesting, I have to turn the TV up pretty loud for my kids to hear it. Although, I wouldn't say it's "too" loud for them. Then I just turn the TV back down a couple notches when I'm done.
