Vest question

So I recently got the Vest and am slated to use it 20 min twice daily, between 10-14 Hz and 1-4 pressure. I've only done it a few times but I find myself usually WIPED OUT after I'm done.

Just to add, I'm currently on the tail end of an IV tuneup, with lots of old yucky mucus coming up each day. I also do lots of deep and varied breathing and cough up mucus intermittently when vesting.

Is this your experience with the Vest too?? My husband was curious because this is all new to us.

I have been using the Vest for at least 10 years, and the only time I experienced feeling wiped out from it was last year when I was really really sick. I do however use my Vest on 20Hz and 8 pressure so I definitely had to lower all of that when I started feeling terrible! I use mine for about 30-45 minutes twice a day.

Wow, the highest I've done is 14 Hz and 3 pressure. How do you do it at such high measures?? That's incredible, kudos to you. I couldn't tolerate higher numbers at this point, to be honest. Do you do active breathing and coughing while vesting?

Good for you for doing the breathing and coughing while you are using the vest. That is the best way to get the full benefit out of using it. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Varying the frequencies and pressure will also be of most benefit to the small and large airways. Our dr stressed that Emily should be coughing regularly while doing the vest too; she also gets up a lot of junk while she's sick. She doesn't bring up much when she's healthy but does cough a lot.

Emily uses a pressure of 8, which gradually decreases through her session as the frequency goes up (6, 8, 9, 18, 19hz.) When she first had the vest she used the 10-14hz settings/ pressure 4 and we eventually switched to the settings we use now after reading some info re. Dr. Warwick's (inventor of the vest) recommendations. She didn't like the higher settings at first but does ok with them now.

I think what's most important is that it's effective- you are bringing up lots of junk! ...and you are working at it (not just sitting there letting it shake you.) You will likely develop a better tolerance for it over a little more time and may be able to increase the settings once you are feeling better. You know that it's normal to have to pause it to cough, right? (the newest Vest has the cord with the bulb on it to make that easy.) It's impossible to draw a deep breath and cough effectively while it's squeezing you. If you've been trying to cough while it's running, that could be why you haven't been able to tolerate a higher pressure.
