Just checking to see if the VEST settings get adjusted for age, size weight of child. I will check with our doc next CF visit but my daughter has had her VEST for close to 5 years now and the settings have been the same for a while now. Just wondering if anyone knows.

Thanks

Do you mean the frequency and pressure and time? With DS we just had a hill-rom rep come to our house with 20 minutes of generic 10-12-14 at a pressure of 5. Based on comments here and talking to some of the other moms locally who go to U of MN and RTs at the hospital last summer -- we've upped the pressure and frequency on our on. Vary the settings, have him cough. None of this was mentioned initially.

We haven't seen the RT at our local clinic in 2-3 years. The one we used to deal with, who was very helpful took a job with the local DME and the new one is never available despite making a point when scheduling the appointment to indicate we'd like to visit with her.

Liza,

That's exactly what I mean. We have the settings at hz 14 and Pressure of 6. She has been at these settings forever. She does the vest 20 min 3 times a day when well. When sick I up her time to 25 min 3 x a day and try to sneak in an extra vest or manual cpt. But the pressure of the vest I wonder if and when I should adjust it? Right now she is home with a cough and I upped the pressure to 7 and she said it feels about the same. I have just been trying to reevaluate her treatments lately and since she is so tall and her weight is good I feel like these isssues should be addressed.

Early on I kept bumping up the pressure and the time to half an hour. But he didn't really like it when I increased the frequency. Last year when I was working with some of the other moms on a CF Rummage sale, they were saying how their kids would fall asleep with a frequency of 19? And I was feeling like a BAD mommy! DS does NOT sleep with the vest and early on gave us fits if it went too fast.

Then this summer at the hospital, the RTs had a lower pressure setting, but every 5 minutes would have DS break for a cough and then up the frequency. Which is basically what we do now. Just wish we had one of the newer machines in which we could program it to do all that. I do think the more frequent cough breaks help as well. He's also gotten used to the increased frequency except when playing Clone Wars on the Wii -- makes him shake too much. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
