hey I have one of those serta stuffed sheeps, and I though he was only for decoration!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I went to the kitchen, grabbed a measurign cup and inverted it over the port-wala! Much better of course it is a bit hard so I will look into soemthing a bit softer.

What makes it worse as I can access my port with a 1/2inch needle that fits perfect but it is just a bit too shallow to reliably use since sometimes I will have to wiggle it down further to get it to flow so I have to use 3/4'' which sticks out sooo far. Using the cotton and anchoring with steri strips is helping.

Thanks for all the advice.

hehe, hope this doesn't freak anyone out - I don't access my own port yet, but one time when I was receiving IV meds and using my vest, it wiggled the needle right outta there!! That really wasn't so bad, but the nurse decided she wanted to flush with saline and heparin before taking off the dressing and re-accessing it. HELLO! The needle was NO LONGER IN THE PORT, but it was still sticking in there, just under my skin. So the saline and heparin went into that space between my skin and the drum of the port and let me tell you, it burned like crazy. Now when I use my vest while accessed, I undo the shoulder velcro over my left shoulder (port is in left side of chest) and pull that part of the vest down so it's not even touching my port. Or I use the acapella, flutter or just do good ol' fashioned CPT. I've tried the donut and the towel, but for me they don't help.

Good luck Nicole - hope some of these suggestions work out for you!
