So my son was prescribed Drisdol about a year ago. I looked up the cost and the cost of the capsules (30 day supply) was about $60 (not mail order) with us paying $30 of that.
But the thing is, our pharmacy substituted for a generic brand. Vitamin D 1.25 mg softgel. I believe my co-pay is something like $5.
I looked up the Drisdol drops (which may be what you are pricing if your little one can't swallow the pill form) and they won't even give me the price for those. Just that they aren't covered.
I will also tell you that he started out taking 2 pills per week (also they doubled his Source CF vitamins). After a few months he had improved so he has been taking only 1 pill per month ever since (docs instructions). Once you are able to raise those levels, oftentimes it will stabilize and you don't have to use as much.
I will also advise you to try to get her out in the sun. Even 15 minutes a day can make a difference.
Lastly, and very interesting to me. As I was pricing the Drisdol for you I discovered something that alarmed me. The Drisdol is NOT to be taken by people with malabsorption problems. It was expressed multiple times in the "drug information" section. Perhap CF is the exception to this malabsorption rule. But I will certainly be questioning the doctor about it.
