Vomit -- the Perfect Storm - OT

Remember a few years ago when we were trying to figure out why DS was vomiting at odd times -- thought it was his zithromax causing stomach upset, vitamins, not enough salt on hot days, car sickness. It would be huge amounts of vomit out of the blue...

Turns out that it was caused by adhesions narrowing his intestinal tract, enzymes not being able to get thru, leading to a blockage and subsequent surgery, which fixed the problem.

Last night I got to relive that experience. I haven't seen so much vomit since before his surgery. It kept coming and coming like something out of the exorcist. Front seat of my car, while I'm driving.

So note to self -- flouride treatment at the dentist, plus a HUGE supper, plus 4 chocolate chip "salt cookies" (cookies sprinkled with salt). And a 1 liter bottle of water during gymnastics. Yep, my darling son drank his entire bottle of water in an hour. The human stomach is not equipped to handle that much volume.

So DH got out the power washer and attacked DS' booster seat, floor of my jeep, the passenger seat. The HORROR! Despite all that, it is a bit of a relief to know that it was vomit, for the sake of overindulgence and not due to something more serious.

It's amazing with cf how we can look at just about any scenerio and think well it could have been worse. I think it definitely has a positive effect on all of us effected. I'm also glad it was just overindulgence. On water no less - good boy! How's his weight OT I know but just curious if his growth curve has changed any since the surgery?

Also might check your car's warantee. Knowing that I had a toddler I opted for the interior plan. If they cant get a stain out they will replace the seat/floor/ceiling, etc.

Immediately after his surgery, his doctors were shocked at the amount of weight he gained within just a couple short months. He also started showing more interest in food -- requesting it, eating more instead of saying he was full after just one bite. We were always able to maintain a 50th percentile, but he just wasn't adding any pounds, although did get taller. Seems to have tapered off. They're very active in the summer at daycare -- walk everywhere, go to parks, is in tennis and gymastics. Now it's more of a gradual weight gain, but I think he's shot up in height again. Will find out for sure in a couple weeks when he goes in for a well child/flu shot visit.

Fortunately it was my jeep wrangler, which is almost 10 years old - so DH pulled the carpet, floor plugs and hosed down the floor. Wiped down the interior.

Liza,

Unfortunately, I have my fair share of vomit stories. When I was a kid; I had a fluoride treatment and it really upset my stomach. I was buying a pack of gum to settle my stomach, my mom had driven me to the grocery store but did not go in, she was waiting in the car. I paid for my gum, then proceeded to throw up on the moving counter where people put their food! The checkout lady was so upset, she refuse to clean it up and made me get my mom in the car to clean it up.

On to another puke story; Maggie was getting oral Zyvox which is very gross tasting and upsets her stomach. I gave her a dose then we were scheduled for a CF appointment, an hour and a half drive, She threw up about 4-5 times on the way to the doctor, It was awful! For some reason I had all the blankets in the car; I put a blanket over her, she would throw up on the blanket and I would pull over and throw the blanket away! I threw away about 3 blankets; then we pulled over and she threw up in a gas station toilet and her hat fell in the toilet!!!It was her best friends hat who had let her borrow it. What an awful day that was!

Anyway, hope your little guy is doing ok
