Vomiting hand fulls of mucus

My son also does this when he is sick. We have attributed it to the fact that he refuses to spit out the mucus when he coughs. So he is swallowing all of it and it just sits there in his tummy. Then when he throws up, out it comes.

His PT at the hospital that does his Pulmonary Rehab, says that every CF boy or man that she has ever worked with has always been the same and refused to spit it out. But the women and girls would. Strange.

Anyway, hope your child is feeling better.

Agree about the swallowing, too! DS rarely coughs unless he's coming down with something, but he did have sinus issues early on and I suspect that's where it came from, though not as copious as your description.

Last year the doctor wanted a sputum culture, so the RT hooked DS up to nebulized hypertonic saline and a vest and I could HEAR all that crud rumbling up. But we ended up having to just do a throat culture 'cuz after 20-30 minutes of trying, he just kept swallowing all that nastiness. Bleah!
