There are Center's in the No. VA DC area that are also good and about the same distance. I chose my center which was not Pitt or in NO VA/DC, because that is where my cf clinic and doctor is. I have been seeing this Doc for 10 years and while the waiting list may be longer (6-9 months for me) they have some of the best survival rates in the country. My Doctor also oversees all the transplants.

I did not choose my center by wait time...I just got lucky. I had to go where my insurance would pay for and where I could get therer fast enough when I got the transplants. All of the transplant centers that do lungs and/or liver were all roughly 5 hours from me.
On another note, just because a center says that their waiting time is normally 3 months or so, it doesn't mean that is going to be the wait time for every person. I know someone who just got her heart at Cleveland Clinic after a 2 year wait. There is another lady who I know that goes there too and she has been waiting for lungs for a year and 2 months. The wait all really depends on match of donors too.
I waited 5 months because we had a hard time getting the liver with the lungs.
