Absolutely worth it!
Even though mine wasn't 100% successful I would certainly say YES!
There are many factors that go into a double-lung trans. I won't paint a rosy picture, it hurts & there will be times you will question whether it was worth it.
Even through those days I still say yes!
It's already been said, there is no list per se. Lungs are allocated due to need, not length of time on 'list'.
I know, my case was one that helped change how UNOS allocated lungs back in '05.
I thank God daily for my miracle.
My Wife (even though I'm a supreme pain in her ass most of the time) is EXTREMELY happy to have me still around.
I would have died in Aug of '05 had I not decided in favor of trans.
While I'm pretty pissed I'm not able to work anymore, I've still had many wonderful days of life because of my trans.
My Wife has gone through more than any wife should have to during the last almost 20 years.
She still says it was worth it.
This is a very personal decision; I would never let a parent make that decision or even influence your desicion. Ultimately it is you that has to undergo the ordeal.
I would strogly reccomend anybody that has to go through this have someone very close to them to be with you through the ordeal.
There have been times when I was 'out of it' when if my Wife hadn't been overseeing every move made by Dr's, nurses & other staff I may not be here to type this.
Please, think it through carefully. I still think it's very much worth it & I always will.
You'll be in our prayers & I hope to hear of your (positive) outcome in the future.
Best of luck to you & yours, 'Pat'
