i need some help. we have a wasp problem on our porch. i bought a wasp trap, but so far it hasn't worked. i know for sure we have mud dobbers. there's two nests in the porch. i got some pictures of the wasp working on it earlier today (i was inside of course). does anyone know of any like home remedies that will deter them from the porch. i will add yesterday i had a hornet cornered in the house. took me 20 mins to kill it cause i didn't want to get stung, or aj, or the dog or cats. i also didn't want to smash him on my brand new furniture. i'm going to go outside in a little bit and spray the two mud dobber nests with a solution of bleach and water. but i don't want them coming back. and i don't want something that is going to harm buttercup when she goes out in the backyard. help me please!

Dumb question:

Any reason you don't use a $4 can of Raid? It will kill the adults & the eggs in the nest and they will be gone....

I tried to reach my bro to see what he did for his farm, but no answer so I googled it to see if I found anything that sounded familiar....I didnt!

BUT I came up with some alternatives that are either save or out of reach of the baby & animals.....here ya go:

1)Cattle ranchers use a special treated plastic material to keep insects off of their cattle. It is a small orange traingle made of a plastic material about the size of the palm of your hand. They put them on a cows back towards their back legs and it keeps insects away from the cow completely. You can buy these at your local feed store for a about $1.00 each. Buy one, cut it into strips, and put the strips at different places around your patio. That should keep the wasps away permanently. I cut them into two peices and put them in my electric meters. It has kept all of the wasps and yellow jackets out so far.

2)We painted our porch ceiling blue in 1996 and have never has a wasp build there.

3)What we do is hang a blown up paper bag from the eaves in several places around the house where we don't want the wasps hanging out. IE: the deck, the covered porch, etc. The wasps (and bees) think that it is a hive, and since they are very territorial, they leave. They might check the bag out a bit, but they are usually in a hurry to get out of there! It works amazingly. And you don't have to use any toxic anything around the area you are spending time in. Lots of stores are selling things based on this idea. You don't have to spend the money though, the paper bags work just as well

We used some sort of foam when we had a problem with yellow jackets. And I think you could stand about 20' away to spray it. They were living under our front steps. Our dog had gotten stung several times on his head after he'd walked past it. Sure it was a poison, but the foam stayed in one place and once everything was dead, we were able to remove the nest.
