We got M home at 43lb and 6 years. One of the first things our CF clinic did was order his vest. They told us they put babies as young as 6 months on the vest. We're not sure why M's old clinic never even considered a vest for him. Its not like fostermom was doing percussions nor like she concealing her lack of attempts to do any ACTs with him from the clinic. They knew he wasn't getting any ACTs and didn't seem to care.

Anyway, I'd call Respitech and see if they can talk to your clinic. I really don't think 40lb is the current limit requirement. And, I do recall that same information about a 19" chest from our RT when M was measured. Let's face it, these kiddos get barrel chested fast and hitting a 19" chest circumference is NOT hard for them.

I was just told of a new vest out from respritech (I believe that's the company) that just approved a 6 month old, I think this new vest requires a 16" chest. I'm trying to find out more info on it, but I think even tough dd is almost 7 months, she has quite a ways to go until she gets to 16" <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My daughter is tiny and we just got a vest from SmartVest. THey have a new toddler size that fits her perfectly. They also sent a child's small so we'll have it ready when she needs the next size. My daughter is 2 1/2 but I think she could have worn this a year ago too. I would definitely recommend the SmartVest too.

We go to the same clinic you go to. (I remember this from previous posts).

Emily had her vest (Hill-rom) at 18 months. She weighed less than 20 pounds and her chest measured just under 19 inches. I brought up the issue of the vest, and it was prescribed. I also got the ball rolling on hypertonic saline and pulmozyme. If you feel the vest is the way to go for your family, then tell them you want it, and don't take no for an answer.

Personally, I love the vest. We still do manual from time to time, but I feel the vest is much more effeicient and consistent.
