Hi again, thanks for replying <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

It's nice to hear that I am not the only one with these issues, it's always comforting to read similar stories, makes me feel not so alone in this... and also confirms me that I have made the right decision not going to these weddings.

On another note, how often do you guys socilaize in general? Has cf played and does it play a role in your social life. I would love to hear som stories.

Thanks.

DS is only 6, but other than the smoking issues, which fortunately are few and far between as most restaurants/ public places in our area no longer allow smoking, we've mananaged to attend most social functions.

Sometimes we'll do his middle vest/cpt treatment earlier in the afternoon(we do 3 per day) or right before heading out the door or at my grandmother's 90th birthday party, we just snuck away for a little while to do CPT. We've also done nebs in the car on the way to/from an event.

We just try to work around his treatment schedule, so we can still maintain social connections with friends and family.

Here in New York, places have also banned smoking in public areas. It was passed a while ago and I was happy because I was so sick of having to walk through the smoking section in a restaurant to get to the non-smoking section. Seriously, what' the point of separating the two areas if I had to walk through the smoking section anyway??
My family smokes (Mom, brother, sister) and when I am around them, they know not to smoke near me...they go outside. When family comes to my house, they all know to go outside here too...no one EVER lights a cigarette in my house...I won't allow it. I really haven't had to avoid any place because of smoking but if there was smoking and it irritated me, I just left. I would do the same thing that you have done and declined invitations to weddings where there is smoking. I wouldn't be able to handle it, even with transplants.

As for my social life because of CF, I have never let CF slow me down (until right before the transplant when I only had an FEV1 of 7%). I have had to decline things when I was really sick, but other than that, I would go a lot of places when I was younger (like going to a friends house over the summer) and just make sure that I had all of my meds with me. Now that I am older (28) and have had the transplants, I really love to travel and I just take precautions that I need to take for the transplants (like wearing a mask on a plane). It's amazing to be able to go places, I don't want to be held back.

Just on a side note...when I got married in 2002, our receptoin was non-smoking and no alcohol. People still enjoyed themselves and we had a great turn out.
