Weight gain/loss in 1st trimester?

How did other CF moms fair in the 1st trimester? I was about 114 pre-pregnancy (I'm 5'2") and my doctor and nutritionist were happy with that weight- I think my BMI was 19-20. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I gained about 5 lbs and was up to 119, which I was really happy about.

Then the yuckiness kicked in, and has been with me for about a month. I'm not actually throwing up (thank goodness!) but I just HATE food right now. It's a struggle to eat anything, just eating a peanut butter/honey sandwich at lunch takes me 45 minutes to get it down. I'm down to about 111, which is disappointing.

I know everyone typically says don't worry about it in the 1st trimester, but I didn't know if I should be more worried about it since I typically have trouble gaining weight. I saw my CF doc right before I got pregnant, and was very healthy, so I haven't been back yet to talk to them about it (though they do know I'm pregnant).

Anyone else lose weight in the first 12-13 weeks but rebound in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters? I'm trying to add in my typical weight gain foods, but I just hate eating so much right now that it's tough.

I never lost weight, but at the end of 14 weeks i had gained 2 pounds, with twins! It was frustrating and disappointing, but the weight will come on. Baby will take what s/he needs from you to grow and gain. My morning sickness stayed with me (always after breakfast) for the whole 9 months. I usually "slept it off" between breakfast and second breakfast. Lucky for me, that was the only time of the day I experienced nausea. But it was everyday, which is draining and unappetizing. Keep up with things like scandi-shakes in between meals. It will help. Try and eat something, anything you can get down. And stay hydrated. If water stays down, drink it, and a lot of it. Good luck.

Hi Jenny,

I am 12 weeks right now and I've lost 4 lbs since getting pregnant. Fortunately enough, I don't have much problems gaining wait for some odd reason (because I used to have a really hard time in childhood/teens). But I have lost 4 lbs since getting pregnant. I was pretty upset about that because I wasn't anticipating losing any weight. I also was not throwing up, but was nauseas for 4 weeks in the 1st trimester and had a horrible appetite the rest of the time. My appetite is just now getting back to normal and I'm noticing that I'm stuffing my face again just like pre-pregnancy.

So hang in there...the appetite will definitely come back. It won't be gone forever. Hopefully sooner than later. Try drinking those Carnation instant breakfasts (or maybe you have some ScandiShakes?). I was doing the Carnations in the first trimester because that was the only thing that was getting nutrition in me when I was so nauseas.

Good luck!

With Logan I lost 4-5 lbs in the first trimester. Total I gained 18 lbs and most of the weight was put on in the 2nd trimester. Towards the end I couldn't eat much because of the pressure on my stomach - if I ate too much at 1 sitting I'd be in pain for hours and hours. At the very end I actually lost 2 lbs.

Currently I am up about 1 or 2 lbs is my guess (though at my appointment last week I was the same weight as 4 weeks earlier). My nausea wasn't nearly this bad this time around though I was still nauseated from weeks 5-9. Some days I'm having a tough time with food because my digestion is much slower now I have been constipated so too much food in my tummy doesn't feel good at all.

For now, just eat what you can and when your nausea goes away you'll be able to eat more. Its really too early to be worried about your weight.
